A TV Ad Triumph

I was watching the 5:30 p.m. news the other day looking for a particular report and a commercial came on for Kellog’s Yogurt Bites cereal, which supposedly helps one “keep regular”.

This guy holding the product comes on screen at a construction site dressed in hard hat, tee under plaid shirt, jeans, workbelt and steeltoe boots.  In the background, workmen pull a 12-foot steel beam through a slot in a concrete wall — deafening Ka-Bam!.  He walks outside, talking about the relief he got in only 10 days and a pickup truck unloads some rolling steel drums.– Rrrrrollllll, bam!bam!bam!  He walks to the end of the construction site and a bigger truck dumps a load of bricks — slam!.

I was screaming with laughter!

Then, there was a commercial where these good old guys are sitting around an empty bar, rehearsing their band — standup piano, two guitars, drums — and they are singing new words to a familiar Elvis tune that quickly goes to the chorus — Viva Viagra!

Now I know why people have televisions.  Hilarious.

After that, there’s a commercial about a Hollywood model maker who needs medicine for an enlarged prostate.

And, I noticed that all the guys in all three of these commercials have scruffy 4 day growths of beards.

Ya think formerly “manly men” of a certain age are a target market for national television news ad men?

I turned off the television without seeing the part I was looking for on the ABC News.
