when you really really need one? Somebody needs to issue a ticket to a couple of German scientists.
You see, Einstein’s special theory of relativity is quite clear on a couple of things. First, the speed of light is a “universal constant”. In fact, it’s the ONLY constant. Light travels at 186,000 miles per in all situations everywhere. So far, so good.
His theory also says that we can’t break the speed of light. You see, it would take an infinite amount of energy to attain that speed, his math demonstrates, so that’s the universal speed limit.
No wonder he argued with Max Planck, the father of quantum theory. Now, those quantum guys have gone and done it.
Two German scientists claim to have broken the speed of light by using “quantum tunneling” to propel a microwave photon faster than the speed of light over a three foot span.
Somebody needs to issue a speeding ticket.
First, it turns out that the whole universe was explained by Isaac Newton but he was wrong, as Einstein proved when he explained the whole universe and now it turns out that Albert, well not so much as we thought.
Seems like next thing you know, we’ll have to admit that UFO aliens might exist since we just lost a powerful argument against them.
What’s a western rationalist to do?
UPDATE: Or, maybe not. This guy swears the reporter got it wrong.
