I have a great need to acknowledge my son in law, Jesse, who brought back a string of “worry beads” as a gift to his father in law. Jesse, these beads have become almost holy to me and I use them every day to count my blessings and you are surely one of my many blessings. I love you, son. I care about you. I admire your parenting and your relationship with my daughter — she seems so happy in this marriage, it makes me very glad. I want to acknowledge your deep intelligence as you work on your doctorate and your bravery and patriotism in serving your country. I’m very proud of you, Jesse, proud to have you as part of my family. All of that aside, you’re such a great guy that it’s a pleasure to just hang out with you. Thanks for being in my life, dude, I really care about you.

Guard Killed, Shooter wounded in Holocaust Museum Hate Crime, the Washington Post story.

Shooting suspect has long history of ties to Neo-Nazis and extremists, according to CNN.

Was the Republican-criticized Homeland Security report about the dangers from the far right confirmed? There’s controversy?

Here’s a profile of the wounded suspect by Talking Points Memo, but if you really want to know who this guy is/was, you can see a fictional character based on the guy played by actor Stacy Keach in the Edward Norton tour-de-force “American History X”:

If anybody should be able to illuminate this guy, it oughta be the blogospheric right wing jabbermouths, right? Michele Malkin says he’s not really a true right wingnut, he’s as left as he is right because he’s just looney. Debbie Schlussel says it’s all the fault of the anti-Semitic Muslims we let walk around. Meanwhile, it appears the right of the right on the blogs, Free Republic, cunningly deleted from their pages a screed by the alleged shooter about Obama’s birth certificate and such. (You can’t link to what isn’t there and I’m not letting you guys go to such a scary site like Free Republic without someone to hold your hand and that’s final, don’t make me stop this car.)

This internet world can be a bit off-putting at times, don’t you think?

Tuesday, I moved my office from 13th and Shartel back into my house. My home is a wreck and I have all my stuff all spread out and disorganized and on the floor and stacked in boxes in the garage and it’ll take me a couple of days to get up and running again.

It feels like a relief. I’m not sure what I’ll do, but the die is cast.

Meanwhile, I want to say how wonderful it has been for the past several years to work with Floyd W. Taylor. He’s been a mentor and friend and, from the day I moved into his offices to this very day, a lawyer I admire and look to as a good example of the profession at its finest. For a fanatical fisherman, he’s a great guy. Blog love to Floyd and his wife, Mickey, and son (who is studying for the bar as I write) Kevin. You guys are the best and I’ll miss you too much not to drop by often to see how you are.

Sinatra’s Muffy has been in a slump and he and I stood outside and yowled in sympathy last night. It won’t help, but it made US feel better.

Thanks to Zane and Steve-O for the transportational help. Good job, guys!

Oz and I had a good time in his little sports car Monday night. We went to eat at Chelino’s and then listened to jazz at the gold dome. Good times. We miss the Debster, but she reports all is well and she’s having fun catching up.
The one thing faster than the speed of light is bad news. I heard that Suz’s car was hit by a truck before it got off the tow truck. I hate it when that happens. She has other cars, but nooooo, the guy has to hit the caddy. F*tard.
I’m having fun redecorating the house, but I’m not near done yet. I’ll have 14 years sobriety, maybe I’ll have a cocktail party to celebrate. Wait. That’s just so wrong.
I had a wonderful, long phone conversation with baby sis, MindOverMary, and ALSO big sis, D*Team. Big Sis has a great idea for a writing project about adjusting to using smaller carbon footprints.
Also talked to MB, who was not feeling well but was happy anticipating a trip west. A shout out to MB’s puppy, Marley; love you, baby! According to her blog, RebL has just been in Los Angeles, visiting kin, taking the children but leaving the hubster.
Mom is working like convict hard labor at the apartments and still has time to terrify her daughter. Amazing.
I’m pretty jazzed up about Lebanese and Iranian elections and some few other things I read about following Obama’s Cairo speech. Hamas and Fatah will soon have another election. Seems to me there’s more democracy as I understand the term in the middle east than we give them credit. Of course, our closest allies in the region are dictatorships and monarchys, Israel excepted.
Here at home, I’m waiting with bated breath for the Minnesota Supreme Court to send the 60th Democratic Party vote to the U.S. Senate. U.S. Sen. Al Franken. From SNL to Capitol Hill. Wow. I can’t wait until he and Barney Frank get on a resolution committee or some such and hold a presser. It should make the news more interesting. Come to think of it, when the news is dominated by photos of Brittany Spears topless, what the hell?

Just a couple of quick hits today in the nature of “I read the news today, Oh, boy”:
First, in New South Wales Australia, prostitution is legal and it’s International Whore Day today so they will wear red dresses and carry red umbrellas and protest what they see as discrimination in advertising rates. All well and good until the head NSW slut says she’s outraged because she’s “paying too much for a measly two inches.” Ah, … don’t we all?
In the second story, a woman with a kidney stone is misdiagnosed by the ER, the doctors, and it’s all FUBAR and she is now a quadruple amputee — no arms, no legs. Gee, aren’t you glad there are caps on the amounts she can be awarded as a result of “tort reform”? Nevermind, the lawyers for the defendants pointed their fingers in every direction but taking responsibility and the jury found for the doctors, but the judge threw out the jury verdict and now the quadraplegic mom goes back to square one. Just remember how the deck is stacked against our poor medical professionals by the nasty trial lawyers.

This is the trailer from the 1970s film, The Night Porter, with Charlotte Rampling and Dirk Bogard, we watched Wednesday night:
